October 2004
Dave DiFrancesco gives Presentation at AAHSA
Dave DiFrancesco, AIA, a principal of Herman Gibans Fodor, Inc., made a
presentation at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Homes
and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) in Nashville, Tennessee on October 27, 2004.
His talk, entitled Constructing a Home-like Environment from the Ground Up,
reviewed the design and construction of the new Gardens of McGregor and Amasa
Stone in East Cleveland, Ohio. Sue Neff, the Executive Director of the McGregor
Campus, joined Dave in the presentation to review the history of this one hundred year old
charitable institution.
Their presentation examined how spatial arrangement, sensitive detailing and material
use were applied to create a home-like environment for the residents of the new multi-million
dollar nursing home. They also presented an analysis of the post-occupancy evaluation that highlighted
aspects of the design that have worked as planned – as well as those that have not.
In addition to the educational session, HGF was also represented in the of the "Knowledge Meets
the Market" tradeshow. This expo is the nation's largest exhibition of aging products and services.
As part of the Design Pavilion’s interactive classroom, Dave also presented The Little House on the
Campus, a new fourteen-bed dementia-care assisted living facility at Laurel Lake in Hudson, Ohio.
